The Lamplighter Podcast
One year ago, Lamplighter began as a storytelling video production studio dedicated to preserving stories that matter. As we celebrate our first anniversary, we are grateful to everyone who has believed in this vision, partnered with the studio, trusted us with your stories, and walked alongside Lamplighter during its first year. Your encouragement, support, and trust have made this journey possible. In many ways, you've helped make our founder's lifelong dream come true.
Over the past year, we've had the privilege of producing films that capture so much of the beauty woven throughout these Appalachian hills—the joyful stories, the sorrowful stories. That work remains at the heart of Lamplighter and will continue to be a central part of our mission.
Today, we're excited to share an expansion of that mission: The Lamplighter Podcast.
As we prayerfully curate the inaugural season, Lamplighter is inviting trusted friends to help identify the people whose gifts quietly strengthen our communities and bring light into the lives of others.
We invite you to reflect on the Lamplighters in your own life and submit individuals whose stories deserve to be preserved, celebrated, and shared with the world.

What Is a Lamplighter?
The name comes from Robert Louis Stevenson's poem The Lamplighter, inspired by a profession that once existed in towns and villages throughout the British Isles and much of the world.
Before electric streetlights, communities depended on Lamplighters. Each evening, as darkness began to fall, a Lamplighter would walk the streets carrying a ladder and lantern, stopping at every lamppost to manually light the lamps one by one. At dawn, they would return to extinguish them. It was humble work. Quiet work. Often unnoticed.
Yet without the Lamplighter, entire communities would be left in darkness. Children could not safely walk home. Neighbors could not easily gather. Travelers struggled to find their way. The simple act of lighting a lamp made community life possible.
The Lamplighter Podcast is a modern interpretation of that idea. At its heart, the Lamplighter's role was simple: to help others find their way. The people featured on this podcast perform a similar role in the world today—not by lighting street lamps, but by sharing their gifts with others.
The Lamplighter Podcast exists to celebrate these modern-day Lamplighters and preserve the stories of the gifts they have shared with the world.
The Vision
We believe every person enters the world carrying unique gifts.
As children, those gifts often appear as simple curiosities, joys, and interests. Over time, they are nurtured by family, mentors, faith communities, friendships, opportunities, and life experiences. What begins as fascination can mature into a calling, a vocation, or a lifelong way of serving others.
The Lamplighter Podcast explores those journeys. Through conversations with people from all walks of life, we trace the threads that connect childhood wonder to adult purpose—revealing how gifts are discovered, cultivated, and ultimately shared with the world.
The Village
No community flourishes because of a single person. Healthy communities are built by countless individuals offering their unique gifts: a gardener who grows food, a carpenter who builds homes, a librarian who preserves stories, a physician who heals, a musician who lifts spirits, a pastor who guides, a volunteer firefighter who answers the call.
Each contribution may seem small on its own, yet together they form a beautiful tapestry of service. The Lamplighter Podcast seeks to celebrate this rich diversity of gifts and the countless ways people help their communities flourish. Through these conversations, we hope to remind listeners that every community is strengthened when its members share their gifts with one another.
What Happens on the Podcast?
Each episode explores questions such as:
-
What gifts first appeared in childhood?
-
How were those gifts nurtured over time?
-
What challenges shaped them?
-
How do those gifts now serve others?
-
What wisdom have they gathered along the way?
Through thoughtful conversations, we hope to create a living archive of people who have dedicated their lives to uplifting others.

-
Who has consistently made your community better?
-
Who uses their gifts to help others flourish?
-
Who serves without seeking recognition?
-
Who has inspired you by the way they live?
-
Who has been a Lamplighter in your own life?
If someone comes to mind, we would love to hear about them. The world often celebrates achievement. Lamplighter Podcast seeks to celebrate contribution.
